The 700-years old town Bogense is situated on the North coast of Funen and known as 'the city of mermaids'. The idyllic habour is very charming and atmospheric and you will find the most beautiful view to Æbleø. The harbour is a old fishing harbour and has been renovated nicely. There are still a few fishing boats around, the quay has been rebuilt with a few posh shops, including a chandlers and a wine shop.

Furthermore the Marina has some of the country's cleanest bathing water and it is very child-friendly. The Marina a fully fledged sailing centre and a popular destination during the summer.

Æbleø

Æbelø is an island located just north of Fyn near Bogense. Northeast of Bogense you will find Æbleø. It is very easy to see from the picturesque harbour in Bogense. Æbleø is a small island that is uninhabited and has a unique nature.

The island is a functioning nature reserve only inhabited by the ranger that keeps the marked paths and overlooks the island. Since the island became a nature park in 1999 the forests have been transformed to traditional danish leaf-forests. There is some wildlife on the island like deers and sheeps. The island has a very special nature, which can be experienced by following the 7 kilometre long path leading you around the island.

Getting to Æbleø by foot is possible from Jersore, but it is preferable when the tides are low, as you have to walk a couple of kilometres of shallow water. Ask the locals for information or go there by one of the many trips there will be made during the summerperiod.

Fishing from Æbleø is also very good and popular. Especially seatrouts should be able to catch. Try out a Summernight-fishing from Æbleø. It is a very beautiful and special experience but don’t expect to many fish.

Bicyling is a very good choice. Fresh air, muscles working for you and the landscape passing by in a speed where the mind can follow.
Bicyling is very popular in Denmark and almost every child has a bicycle. Therefor you will experince lots of people go around on bicycle. Bicyling is a popular retreat for both locals and tourists who seek a bit of tranquility. Bicyling is a safe, fun, easy and obvious choice everywhere in Denmark.

The Dolmen

Access is easy, it is only a short walk. The site itself is a landmark and cannot be missed. It is marked on most maps and signposted. You can park behind the house and it is easy to see then. It is more difficult to find the dolmen from the street, but then simply ask people for the 'Langdysse'.

In the back yard of the houses Kappendrup 55-63 you will find the burial mound and the barrow 'Kappendrup Church'. Though the name is hinting differently the place was established in the period 3900-1700 B. C.

Kappendrup is a minor village with only 287 inhabitants.
