The Norwegian House in Hofmansgaves park

The Norwegian's house in park Hofmansgaves strains from 1814. The Norwegians built the house as thanks for a precious consignment of grain to the starving Norwegian people.

It was during the Napoleonic warsthat it succeeded Hofmannsgave to sail a cargo of grain to Norway. This precious help was not forgotten. After the war was over in 1814, the Norwegians came, in turn, sailing with timber and built the Norwegian House in Hofmansgave.

Denmark's only Potato Museum

Near Odense Fjord there is the beautiful and more than 200 years old manor, called Hofmansgave.

In the beautiful park, which has a wonderful view over the fjord, there is rare trees and plants imported in the 1830's from around the world.

In the beautiful park you also find Denmark's Potato Museum. The potato has had its very own museum. It is probably the only potato museum in the world.

The museum opened in 2000. Here is the museum designed as a tribute to the genus Hofmann-Bang, who worked tirelessly farmers' welfare including by teaching them to growing and eating potatoes. It was the priests and masters men there were spreading the awareness of the potato on Fyn. Around the 1800's there was only one man in the entire northern part of Fyn, which bred potatoes - Hofmann-Bang on Hofmansgave.

The Potato Museum has put Otterup and Nordfyns Council on the world map.

Nordfyns Kommune

The three municipal councils in Søndersø, Otterup and Bogense chose to name the municipality Bogense Municipality.

So it was originally intended that the municipality should have continued with the name Bogense county, but a local referendum on 14 June 2006, the majority instead gave the name Nordfyns county, and this was approved of the Interior and Health department.

Nordfyns county was created by merging Bogense, Otterup and Søndersø counties in 2007.

The population is now around 30,000 inhabitants.

Mormons from Funen

In 1883 left the rich peasant, Mads Nielsen, his good farm in Daugstrup on Nordfyn. He travelled from the farm, his beloved wife and six sons. He was Mormon and took a train to Utah now to be saved, a son and daughter of fraud had already been raised.

In a small town called Elsinore, they built new lives up. In large slotted cultivated the desert. By hand they dug irrigation canals, and art to irrigate a field had learned. 50 preserved letters sent home to his wife and mother in Daugstrup tells not only this. Secession, segregation and lack of a wife are strong themes of Mads Nielsen letters.

The letters also gives an understanding of the rock-solid faith, which was Mads Nielsen to leave everything he loved. He was among the 17,000 Danes who emigrated in the years 1852-1900 in order to await Jesus' imminent return of God's chosen country, Utah.

Christmas around schools

Thursday evening was festive and fun in the fictitious town Kongedal at King School. In today's rise was the school that was transformed into a city with working workshops, which were made jewelry, hot wafers with beaten and whipped cream. All of which were sold by the pupils from the various Christmas shops.

Elsewhere at the school could buy cards to put on Christmas and charming 'nisser' cut out of wood. And for a cheap money. The evening of Kongedal, was the end of the week focusing and hence a portion of pupils' school day, but also a great many parents, grandparents and siblings attended and participated in the Christmas joy.

The tradition belief many keep schools open house one evening in December. Here parents, grandparents and siblings can come to see the local school and have a nice time together with other school users. In addition, many schools has a tradition with a Lucia procession, in which school girls singing Christmas favor.

Sct. Oluf's Holy Source

Down the road Kissemae you will find a path to the Sacred Oluf's Holy Source and it has been sought after as a source of healing. Through the centuries, people from all over the Funen have seeked to Sacred Oluf's Holy source to be cured of the disease.
